Just a few more sketches. The first three are Chanel inspired, something I feel is a bit classy for me. And the last one was actually inspired by Beyonce's Countdown video and Twiggy.
I'm starting to feel less inspired recently but, hopefully I'll get an opportunity for some inspiration with spring break coming up! I don't really have any significant plans so far (unless you count working), but I'm feeling like there might be an unplanned road trip to one of the many places my friends live in NC. That's the great thing about college... free boarding across the state.
Any body else doing something a bit more exciting? I know it's hard to beat my crazy, extravagant plans.

Future Mom
[Sweater: Urban Outfitters, Jeans: Levi's, Belt: Forever 21, Loafers: TJ Maxx, Necklace: Banana Republic, Watch: Atlanta Apparel Market, Glasses: Ted Burton]
Just a little outfit I wore to work yesterday. Nothing super special, but I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that between my tucked in sweater, braided belt, big glasses and grand ma loafers, I probably looked like a 90s mom. Or maybe a 90s grandpa? I will admit my style incorporates many odd inspirations!
Getting Lucky
I was so excited to go to a fashion show at probably the most popular boutique in Boone, Lucky Penny. I love pretty much every single thing they have in that store. I could easily go very broke if I didn't walk a different route to get home. Every season they put on a little fashion show featuring the new clothing in the store and the salon above them does the hair and make up. This was my first time attending, but will definitely not be the last!
The models were all styled beautifully in a 30s and 40s look, of course my favorite decades of fashion. It was fun to see everyone in Boone with a love for fashion, considering most of the time we Fashion Design majors feel so out of place walking around in our crazy outfits! Sadly, I didn't get any pics (dead camera battery), but for more pics check out my friend Haleigh's blog, Soul Stitches who was snapping pictures all night.
After the show, the owner announced everything in the store would be on sale for 15% off the rest of the night! If only I hadn't given up shopping for lent...

Of course before we left we took turns snapping a quick outfit shot for each of us. Sorry I don't have more pictures to share for now, but I'm excited to say I finally got my camera charger! After the show, the owner announced everything in the store would be on sale for 15% off the rest of the night! Design by Numbers: Lord of the Rings
Since last year, there have definitely been some big changes in my life, a few I've already mentioned. But probably the biggest one that I forgot to acknowledge was declaring/changing my major! Since originally transferring to Appalachian, I've known that I want to eventually work as a stylist or fashion editor for a magazine. That doesn't mean I was clear on what major would best lead me to that career. After originally being a Fashion Merchandising and Design minor, I finally made the plunge to become a major! So because I'm a junior, I dove right into all of the classes (lots of pool analogies here). Last semester I took a basic construction class, which then lead to a flat pattern design class for the spring. I'll be the first to admit I am not the best seamstress. My favorite part of the class is actually the 5 designs we have to turn in every week with different inspirations or requirements. I never would have thought I have the creativity to constantly stream completely new ideas for clothing, but these exercises have actually opened my mind to the idea much more recently!
So here are a few from a couple weeks ago. We were asked to draw inspiration from architecture, and being the nerd that I am, I chose the architecture from different cities in Lord of the Rings...
I was nervous to share these, because I am typically not one to shove my drawings in others faces, but since it's your computer I thought it would be alright.
Is there an inspiration you guys find your self constantly using?

I await the day that I can own a faux leather midi, but until then, I can deal with chiffon!

Time to Play Catch up
Well it has indeed been quite some time. My bad! I believe it's been almost a year now, but I believe this was a good year to have to myself and purely focus. I've done some amazing things and had some eye opening experiences since I last posted. Everything from going to New York and Atlanta to work for the apparel markets, to having surgery on my foot; it has definitely been a busy year. So since I can't go into major detail for risk of boring you, I figured I would share just a few photos compiled from a number of sources. Enjoy!
1 & 2) Backstage of photo shoot for fashion portfolio, pictures courtesy of Morgan Shields. 3, 4, & 5) Final picture for Emmagregory Designs, pictures courtesy of Madison Shields Photography. 6) Gotta take a touristy photo in NYC. 7) Briefly meeting Whitney Port at Coterie in NYC. 8) I'm not going to deny that I dressed up for the release of the final Harry Potter movie. 9) It would only be fitting to get Butterbeer and Quidditch cupcakes for my 20th Birthday.
I will be back later this week with an outfit post to continue this new start of actually posting things on my blog... crazy concept right?!
Until then, mischief managed.

rain, rain, go away
[romper: Target, raincoat:Paris...?, tights: Target,
sunglasses: Forever 21, shoes: The Lucky Penny]
Of course, since I got back from Wilmington, it's been nothing but rain. So today I pulled out a rain jacket that the sister and I bought a couple years ago when we went to Paris. It was over the summer, making the jacket a perfect weight for this weather. And another pull out of the back of my closet, or rather the back of my trunk. I had originally thought I lost them after only wearing them once! I love finding long lost clothes.
You people may be asking, "why is she wearing sunglasses if it's raining?" And that my friends is a fantastic question. I actually have no rational explanation for that question. I just bought them and I wanted to wear them! I guess I could also use the excuse that this blog is called Shoes, Sunglasses, & Giraffes. One more thing, my dog is temporarily replacing the giraffe while I save up the money. They get pretty pricey, people.
