i hope i don't jinx it

Considering I live in a town that last year, got more snow than parts of Alaska, it probably is a little too early to be excited for spring, but I can't help it.  And if I'm getting too excited God is encouraging it because this same town that got all that snow last year was running balmy 67 degrees yesterday!  This morning I couldn't help but break out my very summery boyfriend pants (my only pair with holes in them).

I sadly could not get a shot of my entire outfit before I left this morning but here are a few more things I'm excited for this spring...

Getting all my colorful keds, oxfords, and flats out-- I'm okay with putting my boots in the trunk for a while.

 All the spring magazines and catalogs that just came in that I can read on the beach, and start my spring shopping lists.

 My favorite picture of spring break three years ago, which will hopefully prove as a model for how this spring break is going to shape up!


Last thing, here's a few pictures from a couple weeks ago (I ended up leaving my camera at home. oops.) I'm also excited to spend some time with the crazy family for a couple days.  So much to look forward too!

I'm definitely going to try to get a full outfit shot in before I leave for spring break at the end of the week.  It's been way too long.  Until then, Happy early spring!

I wanna be just like you

As I was internet "surfing" (pause: is that really a term used in today's American jargon, or just thought to be used by French 1 text books?), I found along the way a picture of Alexa Chung.  I could not think of anything to do except add it to my ever growing folder of inspiration pictures on my desktop.  But as I then was curious to look back through this same folder, I discovered numerous other pictures I had saved of Ms. Chung as outfit inspirations.  Conclusion: I want to dress be just like Alexa Chung.

So, to make this easier, for you not me, I'm giving you a list of the reason why I do, and why you should want to be just like her too.
#1: She looks hilarious.  And she actually is funny.  We Americans only got a small taste of her comedy with MTV's It's On With Alexa Chung.

#2: Her menswear inspired outfits that still hint at femininity.  I love the oxfords, blazers, neck ties.

#3: She designed a line for Madewell, already one of my favorite stores.  Now everything just needs to cost $40, maximum.  Or I could just make $1 million a year.  Either works for me.

#4: She brings whimsy into her outfits.  She's not fifty-something and there fore should not be expected to have seriously boring outfits.  Although honestly, she'll probably end up being the Diane Keaton of our generation as far as fashion goes.

#5: She'll be hosting a new show on PBS called Thrift America, and let's face it, everyone should learn how to thrift in America better with this lovely las from across the pond.

This next week, you can count on me wearing every blazer, neck tie, and pair of oxfords that I own. And possibly trying to be more whimsically hilarious.  I'll get back to you on how that second one turns out.

so this is what sunshine looks like

A while back, I posted some pictures from a shoot for one of the roommates' portfolio; she is an apparel and textiles major (my minor) here at Appalachian and she is extremely good at it- or at least I think so and that's all that counts, right? 

 As I looked through these photos, meanwhile hiding out in the apartment from the bit of Antarctica that has taken residence in Boone, I was reminded of a brighter and sunnier time.  It's called summer.  Or maybe early fall?  Still, even though I don't look as good as a vampire this pale and the simple act of getting dressed is exhausting due to the layers required, it is good to be back in the snow.  Hopefully there will be future posts showing the use of my multiple pairs of new boots I'm getting extremely good use out of.

One last thing, you may notice a lack of recognition to the locations I bought my clothing.  That would be because a majority of the clothing is made by the ridiculously talented roommate!  Good news for everyone: she has an Etsy site so you can still shop here.  Do it!

Fashion Show, Fashion Show, Fashion Show at Lunch

Hopefully, anyone who reads this regularly knows that I am now going to Appalachian State University.  I was set up with my new roommates through what I can only imagine is an act of God, considering how ridiculously compatable we are.  If you literally took my roomies, squished them into one person you would end up with me.  Maybe subtract their cooking skills that I obviously lack. 

So, recently I posted a couple pictures of one of my new roommates, Katie. Now I will be introducing Emma, who just so happens to have her own amazing collection. She was just recently asked to show her clothes at the apparel market in Atlanta this week, and in preparation asked for my help with some photos. It was probably the most fun I have had this week, but who doesn't love dressing up in adorable clothes and playing model for a couple hours? Actually I will say I enjoyed the time behind the camera more; still, here are some of my favorite shots we took.

Sorry it has been a while, guys. Lots and lots going on this week! But I think there are enough pictures to make up for my extended absence.

Naturally, I'm pulling out the high waisted shorts. As you might have read in my last post, I pretty much don't wear anything but shorts this summer, this particular pair i grabbed at a jcrew outlet a couple years ago. They reminded me of my favorite decade of fashion: the 1930s and 40s. The detail involved in style, like my shorts, the little polka dots, the deep teal color, the buttons lining the front.

Even with the polka dots, I wore a vertically striped shirt. Because neither of the patterns were too bold, I felt it wasn't overwhelming. Hold the phone, I'm wearing red lipstick and magenta shoes? Yep, thats right. If I wore matching shoes and lipstick, that would just be a little weird, right? Seriously, who matches their lipstick to their shoes? The point is, as long as nothing is too outlandish, you can mix patterns and colors. Pretty much whatever you want, well atleast that's what I do.

peach is patriotic too

I know it's not the 4th of July yet, but since I also know I will be ridiculously busy this weekend, I'm going to go ahead and post now. So I guess that means an early happy 4th of July to everyone!

Normally this time of year, everyone pulls out their red, white, and blue. Of course, I pull out my favorite color... PEACH. Its so pretty on any skin color (even those pale vampires). I didn't actually mean to do the same color nails but, what can I say? When you love something, it's okay to go a little overboard.

So everyone get out their peach! Maybe you can disguise it with a little blue this sunday (:
